As you can see by the tracklist and title, this is a "best of" CD with some new/unlreleased stuff thrown in for good mesure.

I agree about Rudess... he makes some of the most annoying music on earth, and Dream Theater went downhill after Kevin Moore departed IMO. Moore was perfect for the band... and his solo albums under "Chroma Key" are brilliant.

Anyways... Bozzio. Yeah, this should be a cool album. Worst cover though, what's up with that!? It is TERRIBLE. And why does he have toms mounted on wooden planks now!?!?!?

Wow, never seen so many Rudess haters at one time. Have you guys heard the track "Biaxident" with LTE. His part are amazing on that!
If you don't like his style of playing thats fine by me, but please appreciate his talent as a musician.

Oh yeah LDGuy, who DO you consider a good keyboarder? Not pianist, but keyboarder.

Actually, yes i do. I've played piano for 8 years (i'm thirteen now) and i'd say i'm pretty good at keyboards.

The problem i have with Rudess is that he doesn't really have any sence of what sounds good in a certain situation (at least that's what it sounds like), using fake guitar sounds in LTE when there's Patrucci who can do all of that himself. He also gives the music a sence of melodramaticness, which i don't like, and he doesn't really play with a lot of feeling (then again, he does do some interesting stuff on some of LTE and DT's slower stuff). The problem i have with him is that he's just not good to listen to. I listen to his solos and think "why cant you just do some ambient stuff agaisnt this genius Patrucci? Why do you have to do a solo", and this isn't a good feeling.

I don't really know why this is, maybe his synth sound, maybe his solo technique, who knows. I decided i just will avoid him, cos i just get angry when i listen to him, which i don't thinks really fair, on him, or me.

Some good keyboard players...

Jay Oliver
Steve Weingart (although he doesn't really pay that much attention to what the rest of the band is doing, but he's still a very good player)
Chick Corea
David Garfield
Donald Fagen
Steve Hunt
Larry Goldings

There are loads of good ones, but these are just off the top of my head...

Naahhh...Yanni...

OK! OK!
Howzbout Herbie & McCoy? Earl Garner? Gonzalo? Jarrett, Lyle Mays, Sample, Camilo, T Lavitz, Pasqua, A Zavod, Walter Affanasief, Danilo Perez, Zawinul, Brad Mehldau, Jim Beard...

IMO, JR is DEF better than say THE [overly-] melodramatic Yawny or JTesh [altho JT seems to be a very nice guy, so I'll cut him that break]...

Good choices for keys, there...

Funny you should bag on JR's sounds & then list DG...

-----------------------

The "wooden plank" mounts...eh, anything to be something diff [& "new"], i guess[?]...

1 of my all-time fave Boz cuts - UK's "The Only Thing She Needs" off the Danger Money album - IYF [In Yo' Face] rock-fusion drumg at it's most indulgent

Too bad he wasn't the real drumr in DT... ;cP Doh!

I HATE jordan rudess! He has chops, but he sounds crap! And he uses crap kerzweil synths that sound like something from 1992! He ruined Liquid Tension Experiment IMO, it would have been a better album without him.

This'll be an interesting album, though.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hey LDGuy, I don't know much about keyboarders (being a drummer and all ), but I'm curious who you consider to be a good keyboarder (sound and otherwise). To me, Rudess just sounds like any other keyboarder, if you know what I mean.

Later,

It's hard to knock a good musician like 'Jordan Rudess', but i will admit that his sounds are a little 'cheesy' at times.

Please keep in mind that Rudess was the only member of Dream Theater that is a total prog maniac. James would bring pop influences in, where Portnoy is also a decent metal drummer. Perhaps its just that you guys dont dig progressive stuff that much?
